Managing RSD in professional settings

Surviving Feedback at Work

  • Ask for feedback in writing so you can process it privately
  • Request specific examples rather than general criticism
  • Schedule feedback sessions when you're at your best (not Friday afternoons)
  • Have a post-feedback ritual ready (walk, music, supportive friend)
  • Remember: feedback is about the work, not your worth as a person

For Managers

If you manage someone with RSD, small adjustments to how you deliver feedback can make a huge difference:

  • • Lead with what's working before addressing issues
  • • Be specific and actionable, not general or vague
  • • Deliver difficult feedback privately, never publicly
  • • Follow up to show the relationship is still strong
  • • Recognise that intense reactions aren't about you
